                                                                          Elkhart Lake News

We are all pleased to hear that Cedar Lake called “Crystal Lake” is to be used as a summer resort the coming season, but instead of the water being on hundred feet deep, Prof. Marsh of Ripon College was unable to find it deeper than thirty-nine feet at any place, and the lake lies twenty-two feet above Elkhart Lake, so with the proposed canal, where would Crystal Lake be?  The temperature of Cedar Lake is 65 degrees at the surface and the same at the bottom, and Elkhart Lake is 65 degrees at the surface and 32 degrees at the bottom and is 117 feet deep.  Prof. Marsh as authority.

Richard Bruns has returned from Milwaukee, after spending to weeks with his sister, Mr. Mertin.

Miss Gretchen Knoor returned from Chicago Saturday Night.

    O. A. LaBudde returned home Saturday after a few days visit with his sister at Rochester, Minn.

                                                                 The Crystal Lake Resort

A Large Amount of Money to be Spent in Improvements.

---------------------

Cedar Lake No More.   It Will be Known in the Future as Crystal Lake.   A Resort Which Will Become Very Popular Amoung Pleasure Seekers.  Will be a Prominent Station on the Electric Line.

-------------

What promises to be one of the leading summer resorts in Wisconsin and the most popular in Sheboygan County, is Crystal Lake, formerly known as Cedar Lake.  A party of Milwaukee capitalists have formed a company with S. J. Reigh at the head to be Known as Crystal Lake Realty Company, and it is proposed to spend several thousand dollars in improvements at the resort.

A force of men are now at work there and as soon as spring opens, a corps of mechanics will be set to work in building cottages, boat houses and remodeling the hotel on the island for a Club house where refreshments will be served and entertainments given during the summers months.  Crystal Lake as it is now called, is in the midst of romantic scenery, where the air is delightfully purse and invigorating.  It is only about one mile and a half from Elkhart.  Nowhere in Wisconsin is there more a charming spot.

Out about 400 feet from the shore is a beautiful island, on which was built the hotel which will be remodeled into a club house and dance hall.  A bridge will be constructed from the shore to the Island for the convenience of the guests.  On the shores of the lake a number of cottages will be built this spring, and possibly a modern hotel.  Bath houses, boat houses, etc., will also be constructed.

In an interview with Mr. Reigh, who has charge of the improvements and who owns a large amount of stock in the company, it was learned that it is proposed to furnish all kinds of amusements at the lake this summer, including all sorts of games, and excellent music will be furnished every afternoon and evening on Sundays on and after July 4.   Indeed, everything calculated to enhance the comfort and pleasure of guests has been anticipated.

After all improvements are made, the resort will furnish a fascination of which one never tires, and will be noted for its home like and other pleasing features, and in the language of the post it may be truthfully said that “Here the heart intones its ambitions, joining nature in her praise.  And perfection meets perfection in a thousand different ways.

Mr. Reigh is a pleasing gentleman to meet, and he will doubtless make the new resort a center of attraction for everyone in search of pleasure or a place of recreation.  The improvements will be completed about the time the electric line is completed to that point.

Crystal Lake Items

The opening of the summer resort here June 9th was all that could be desired; a pleasant time was had by all.

Work is progressing finely, they will commence building a number of new boats this week.

Fred Guse had a cow killed by lightning a short time ago.

We had a heavy thunderstorm on Wednesday and another on Thursday.

Farmers would like a chance to work in their corn fields.

Last Wednesday night when Jake Reigh and Mont Barber returned from the class play at Glenbeulah, as they came in sight of the barn they saw a lantern moving about and naturally supposed .. someone was on mischief bent.  So bravely driving by they called out to the intruder to get out or suffer the consequences.  Having given him plenty of time to leave, they armed themselves with stout hickory clubs and marching in, found their chum there asleep.
